I have taught GED as college faculty for six years, and most of that time is spent on math because it is what students struggle with the most. I have had great success teaching geometry, algebra, and other high school math like quadratic formula, graphing, basic statistics, probability, etc. I have extensive experience working with a variety of learning styles and students with ADD/ADHD. At 15, my nephew moved in because he was failing high school, and I tutored him for three years to ensure he would graduate, which he did. He struggled with math and writing.
I am an excellent writer and can help with that, too. I have helped students compose scholarship-winning essays, and in graduate school, I was the go-to peer editor for essays and projects.
Lastly, I am proficient in Spanish and have a bachelor's degree in Spanish and French. I studied abroad in Argentina and have also traveled to Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador, and Uruguay. I taught GED in Spanish -- so teaching math, reading and writing to Spanish speakers -- and can tutor all levels of Spanish, too!
A little about me: I am very stubborn and won't let my students fail. I am a very passionate teacher; this is not my side job, this is my career. But don't be fooled -- I am also fun, and learning should not be torture! I meet students where they are and love to help students on their path to success. I have also taught CPR, motorcycle training, photography and beginning martial arts. I struggled greatly with math as a kid, so I understand the frustration many students face, too.
Thanks for considering me as your tutor!
