I have experience with tutoring high school chemistry, AP chemistry, General Chemistry I&II, Organic Chemistry I&II, all levels of math courses up to Calculus II and Spanish courses at the college I attended. As a tutor I enjoy figuring out how to best help each individual student that approaches me. Sometimes students need me to write out practice questions for them or help them figure out better studying methods.
Once I figure out how to best help students, I also figure if they work best with seeing things written down, repetition if the task involves learning concepts from a chapter of the textbook, and all students in chemistry need to get good at practice problems to do well in the course. I also show students how to best approach reading the textbook. The general chemistry textbook that my college uses is set up in a way that every concept it introduces, it has multiple problems to go along with it. When I come across important terms students should know from the textbook, I suggest using flashcards to learn them. Students need to first learn the basic concepts behind each homework problems before they can approach it.
After tutoring a few students, I wondered if they progressed. My greatest joy with regard to tutoring comes when students come back to me excited that they did well on a quiz/exam due to preparation during our studying sessions. For example, a general chemistry student that I tutored was leaving their exam and felt very confident about how they did. When they got the test back, they thanked me for all my help in preparing them for the exam.
Also, I did very well in Calculus during my sophomore year of college and helped my fellow classmates that were taking the course with me. Since then, I have tutored all levels of math up to calculus II. I have experience tutoring Spanish courses at college, and participated in a mentorship program where I assisted Spanish speaking middle school students with their homework by translating the directions from English to Spanish.
