I am a rising sophomore at Cornell University studying architecture. Last year I graduated from High School for Construction Trades, Engineering and Architecture in Ozone Park, New York, where I learned to draft with AutoCAD and Revit. From 2016 to 2018, outside of high school I was mentored by groundbreaking architecture and construction firms like Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill LLP (SOM), and Sciame on a weekly basis through ACEMentorship. I also attended weekend classes at The Cooper Union for architecture and design, where I continued to master my drafting, model making and analog abilities.

In my free time I volunteered at local NYC Parks as a GreenTeen, cleaning parks and advocating for sustainable practices to the youth.As a first-gen Latino college student, I also applied to over twenty colleges nationwide and learned a lot about the process behind it. As a result I became interested in helping younger students with college admissions and financial aid applications. I became a College Access Ambassador at my school and local community to guide students towards success. Through this I refined my organization, communication mechanisms, research and data analysis abilities.

According to talent-finding book “Clifton’s Strengths for Students” my most prominent strength is that of the “Maximizer”. The attributes of the maximizer include to: “focus on strengths as a way to stimulate personal and group excellence. They seek to transform something strong into something superb.” Upon acceptance into Cornell University, I was given Hunter R. Rawlings III Presidential Research Scholarship allowing me to carry out independent research while simultaneously executing my core studies. In the first year, my software knowledge has expanded into Adobe Creative Suite, Rhinoceros, Grasshopper and V-Ray. In the analog realm, I learned to work with wood and metal project fabrication, concrete and plaster casting, 3-D printing, CNC milling, laser-cutting and photography. As a result of these physically engaging skills, I have grown to be more sensible to detail and precision with my work.
