I love to tell stories, and I am fortunate to have benefited from an education which broadened, challenged and enriched my expertise as a storyteller. In high school, English and Creative Writing were among my favorite courses, and I found that I could focus on little else. Interestingly enough, right before college I discovered another form of storytelling: music. I went on to study film scoring at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, and later classical music composition at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, where I graduated with my Bachelor's Degree in 2016. It was not until I attended NYU Tisch School of the Arts that I discovered the true magic of words married to music. In May 2018, I earned my Master's Degree from the Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program, where I honed the arts of lyric, book and songwriting.
My love for music is matched only by my love for the English language. Whether we are writing a poem, a novel, a lyric, a tweet or an essay, I believe our sole duty is to communicate effectively and concisely. Writing is about making a connection with your reader, and in order to do that, you have to communicate in your own voice. Writing is about digging deep and telling truth. No one else sounds like you, and that's a remarkable thing.
Writing doesn't have to be painstaking, and it doesn't have to feel like work. If you let it, writing can be exciting; it can be an exploration and celebration of you.
