Hello, I am a former non-fiction writer and newspaper editor who is now moving into an education career. As a working teacher, I have recent CORI and background checks conducted by the state, and I have passed the state's MTEL teacher exams in history, government, and English/Language Arts. In graduate school, I am currently working on my SEI endorsement course, which basically focuses on the ways humans acquire language and which is a key component of being able to work with English language learners in Massachusetts.
Before starting to work as a teacher in my present position with at-risk youth, I worked in local and online journalism and also did some marketing and PR writing. My career experience for a time also included training new reporters how to write news articles and to network for sources.
Given my background and present work, I am comfortable working with students of any age and reading/writing/language level. I am an encouraging teacher who believes in a student's ability to build their skill and with motivation, to excel with help from their own natural interests.
