I have been a professional tutor and
instructor of the Spanish language and ESL for about twelve years.
I have a Bachelor's degree from the
University of Massachusetts at Amherst
in both Political Science and Spanish
studies. I am NOT a certified teacher.
Shortly after graduating, I lived in various countries including Mexico, Costa Rica, Colombia, Peru, Uruguay,
and Spain, where I studied the Spanish language and culture intensively and also taught EFL ( English as a Foreign Language). Back in the states, I teach and tutor
ESL ( English as a Second Language)
to foreigners. Teaching certification is not required.
I have several certifications in medical, law enforcement, legal, and
educational Spanish. I tutor and teach
to indivduals and groups from ages 15
and over. My areas of concentration are in conversation and grammar with some emphasis on reading and writing.
I do use visuals, require certain books, and computer programs.
I generally meet in coffee shops and schools. Occasionally will meet at libraries and students' homes.
My hourly rate is on a sliding basis,
i.e., am flexible. I am a very patient,
likeable, and funny guy. I can be somewhat demanding in that I require
a great deal of outside homework, yet
I create a fun and relaxed atmosphere.
I also spent time living in Israel
studying Hebrew language and culture,
where I also taught some EFL.
I cover the Greater Boston area, primarily the Northshore.
