During my undergraduate studies at Emory I worked as a tutor for fellow college students, helping them in Neuroscience, Organic Chemistry, Biology and Spanish. The summer after graduation I worked as a nanny for a child going in to 2nd grade, and spoke in Spanish to her for her to practice her comprehension. Also during this nannying position I tutored the child in English and Math (she was enrolled in Kumon and Mathnasium for the summer).
The following year, while getting my masters abroad (Spain), I taught English to two children (11 and 7 years old), who are native speakers of Spanish and Basque.
After my year abroad I began working at the National Institutes of Health while also volunteering with refugee organizations (Refugee Youth Project and Soccer Without Borders). Through these organizations I have spent two years tutoring elementary to high school children in English, Math, and Science. All of my refugee tutees are non-native speakers of English, adding a tough, but rewarding challenge to my tutoring experience.
