Hi! I am Alanna and I have been tutoring high school and college students for over 8 years. I am 35 (almost 36), have a masters degree in Human Biology with a concentration in forensics and anatomy. I have taught college level anatomy and physiology, been a teaching assistant in several different classes through graduate level. I have tutored students of varying needs, both physical and academic.
On a more personal note! I have two children in high school, a son who is graduating this may and a daughter who will start her senior year in August. I am patient and connect well with students. My tutoring style focuses on organization, hands on work, and conceptual foundations. I work on study skills as much as I focus on specific subject content. I prefer to use methods other than just rote memorization when possible, and I am a fan of tactile and visual learning tools. I also believe in taking a socratic approach which can frsurate students in the begnning but I have found it increases their ability to recognize how to use resources available to them. I am very easy to talk to and am generally well liked by my students as being realxed and competent. I am probably best suited to students who are boisterious, gregarious, and energetic. I am also usually good with students who need someone to find out of the box ways to engage them in their work.
