Hi! My name is Marsha, and I graduated from California State University, Northridge with a Multiple Subjects Clear Teaching Credential and a major in Child Development. I also have a Cross-cultural Language Acquisition Development Certificate which allows me to teach non-English speaking students (both adults and children).
I got this certificate when I was teaching a modified bilingual classroom for a year. I went to a language school in Costa Rica during my off-track (vacation) time. Learning different customs and cultures is important to me. I feel it makes me a more effective teacher.
Children are our future and opening their minds is always an exciting time. I love the challenge of grabbing the teaching moment and turning it into the "ah ha moment" when the light bulb goes on, and I see your child understand concepts where they weren't available to him/her before.
In over 25 years of teaching, I've been able to impact my students with the love of learning. I teach math, reading, phonics, grammar, spelling, vocabulary, comprehension, English as a Second Language, test taking skills and study skills.
I emphasize such things as written expression, reading comprehension, vocabulary-building, critical thinking, and logic. (Common Core Curriculum.)
Whether we are working on reading, spelling or math, I assign homework to review the subject taught, and keep the student engaged but not overwhelmed.
I am flexible with time. However, I do have a 24-hour cancellation policy. I am comfortable with tutoring both privately or in a group. I also provide an environment conducive to learning.
I look forward to hearing from you to find out how I can best be of service to meet your needs. Everyone can be successful in their studies and feel good about themselves. Let me help you reach those goals!
