Hi there! My name is Heather and I live in San Diego. I love working with children of all ages because seeing the growth in kids - both academically and emotionally - is such a reward for me. I believe the greatest thing to teach a child is confidence. All children have the capability of learning, but many of them need to build personal confidence; often times, a trusted adult like a teacher or tutor (in addition to the student's parents) can help increase this skill significantly.
Two months after earning my teaching credential in 2013 as an education specialist for students with mild/moderate disabilities, I began teaching at a small private/nonpublic school. I was promoted to Director of Special Education during the 3+ years of my employment there. Since 2016, I've been working for a virtual homeschool charter school. Because of this position, I have 5 years of experience with teaching online (Zoom, Blackboard Collaborate, Google Classroom) and would be open to both virtual and in person tutoring. When I began my current teaching position, I also started tutoring a high schooler with Asperger's and a 4th grade private school student who I continue to tutor (she's in 8th grade now!!). Prior to gaining my credential, I worked in a variety of classroom settings, including general education, special day classes for moderate to severe disabilities, and resource rooms in both public schools and a projects-based charter school.
I have the education and experience to help your student academically. Beyond that, I truly care and want to see your child learn school subjects in addition to practical life skills when appropriate. I look forward to learning more about your family's needs so we can see if we're a good fit!
