Hi!
My name is Megan and I am currently studying mathematics at Diablo Valley College. My goal is to transfer to a University and pursue a degree in Math.
Why math?
During my time at Diablo Valley College, my Calculus I professor inspired me to tackle challenging problems by thoroughly explaining concepts and teaching me different methods to find a problem's particular solution. In addition, my professor motivated me to approach equations with zero fear and be okay with making mistakes. Math used to be this daunting subject to me because I was so afraid of getting the wrong answer. But eventually, I became okay with being wrong so I could understand how to find the right answer. Math is a subject that humbles me, nourishes my brain, and constantly motivates me.
Now, math can be tedious, frustrating, and especially - boring. But it doesn't have to be that way! Math can actually be a lot of fun. Said no one... but surprisingly, when we apply math to real world situations and how it's used in our everyday lives, I grew to like math because it felt useful.
One of my favorite ways to exercise math is by teaching it to kids. There's nothing more rewarding than when I can influence a kid to navigate his or her OWN way through a math problem. A.) Because he or she solved it completely on their own, B.) I'm doing my job right, and C.) seeing a child prepared to conquer future obstacles in math.
I'm a tutor who utilizes the use of asking questions and teaching students to use their own minds. I try to avoid regurgitation. Instead, I try to promote practice and self-reliance.
Besides math, I excelled in English and Critical Thinking courses while at San Francisco State University and Diablo Valley College. I also teach various other subjects.
However, my main goal when it comes to tutoring is teaching kids how to practice, think, and work with others. I'm a firm believer that when we work together, things get better. Sounds corny but in my past nannying, customer service, even engineering intern experience, it's true.
Looking forward to hearing from you and working together.
Have a wonderful day and thanks for reading a little bit about my passion for studying and working with children.
