I am PhD Candidate in Interdisciplinary Humanities at University of California-Merced. I have previously earned a BA in archaeology from Willamette University, and a MA in anthropology from University of Nebraska-Lincoln. I have 4+ years of experience tutoring a variety of K-12 subjects as well as leading lab and discussion sections in various anthropology subjects at the college level. I believe in making the learning process engaging and collaborative. I teach to create active learners. The role of an active teacher is to help students learn not just teach them. I see this as important because active learners absorb material more effectively, and can apply that material in a variety of contexts. Active teaching prepares students for work where new skills and knowledge must be learned regularly.
