I am certified in TESOL and excellent at testing in anything verbal, written or requiring critical thinking. I graduated with degrees in Linguistics and Philosophy. I am well trained in ESL and teaching reading skills. Literature is a passion of mine and understanding it is important to me, so, I want to help you understand it too. With my philosophy work, I can train in debate skills and ethics skills. Ethics Bowl was a club I spent years in, and it honed my ability to understand the issues in my own ideas and how to critique other people's frameworks so that we can deepen each other's understandings. I can help in all math related to k-12 as well as English and have no problem working with IEPs, learning disabilities or executive dysfunctions - as well as special education related to being behind or ahead in advanced classes. I am well prepared to help with test prep up to and including the GRE Verbal and Analytical writing.
I want my students to feel comfortable in their classroom. I try to be as warm and welcoming as I can. Rapport building is important to me. There is no need for schooling or tutoring to be something you dread, but instead, something you look forward to. My spaces are relaxed, safe, and still offering the most amount of learning I can give to you. I don't want anyone in my groups to feel left out or behind. I play to the strengths you show and give those the chance to shine. I use positive error correction and don't focus on mistakes for too long per session, because we can always revisit it as lessons go on.
I want you to feel free to ask questions and be wrong, or right, or close. Fear of being wrong keeps a student from realizing how close they are to "getting it". Teaching is collaboration between us, and I want us to learn together and be comfortable working together. I want you to feel cared for and safe in this space we create together. I am so excited to have you in my classroom. I try to be as warm and welcoming as I can.
I can't wait to get to know you.
