All tutors must be at least 18 years old and currently reside within the United States. You must either be attending or have graduated from a well-known University. As part of your application, we will also conduct a telephone interview before your profile appears on the site.
If you accept in-home tutoring opportunities, you require your own form of transportation.
You do not require a background check to sign up as a tutor on the website. Students can request a background check on potential tutors at their own expense, for $9. In order to work with any student who is a HeyTutor Pro user, you must pass our background check.
All of our background checks are processed by a GoodHire Inc. (www.goodhire.com). Upon submitting your SSN, GoodHire will screen for:
National Criminal Records Check
Social Security Number Trace & Address History Trace
Sex Offender Watch List & Terrorist Watch List (OFAC)
If a tutor is not cleared by GoodHire they will be removed from our platform.
HeyTutor allows you to bring up to 10 reviews from other sources to help you get started.
There are a number of ways you can get increase your tutoring opportunities. We recommend taking the following steps.
All tutoring jobs will be posted on our job search board. You can access the job search from your dashboard by clicking the “Jobs Search” tab. You can filter jobs by location, subject and time posted. Alternatively, students can contact you directly via your profile.
Apply to jobs as soon as they’re posted. If you delay, you allow more tutors to apply and you might miss out.
Tailor your applications. Make each one personalized so that you really connect with students.
Perfect your profile. Make sure your bio is catchy and highlights your strengths as a tutor. Additionally, your profile photo should be professional looking.
Respond to students quickly. Remember, your HeyTutor ranking is linked to your response time.
Your bio should have all the information you want students to know about you. You should include your qualifications, experience and a bit about yourself. This is your chance to sell yourself to potential students.
You can change your hourly rate by clicking on the My Profile tab. Your new hourly rate only affects new jobs. Your current jobs will continue to pay your old rate.
If you do receive a negative review that you feel is unjustified, you can initiate a dispute by contacting our customer support team. Our world class support team will do their best to help all parties reach a satisfactory outcome.

Student response time. The quicker you respond the messages from the students, the better.
You can schedule lessons with students using the schedule a lessons tab on your HeyTutor dashboard. This will send email notifications to both you and your student for upcoming sessions.

None of your personal information is available to students, including your exact location. These details are encrypted during the pre-booking process.
You should never share your personal contact information to students without a verified payment method.
You can remove your profile from public view by clicking the “Hide me on marketplace” link on your dashboard.
HeyTutor is an online marketplace where tutors and students can connect. Students are free to access a large database of tutors filtered by location and subject, and tutors are able to create a custom profile, set their own rates and policies, and browse for nearby jobs. After each session tutors are reviewed by HeyTutor students, creating an online marketplace built on trust and driven by positive results.
We handle all the behind the scenes stuff so that you can focus on teaching.
The biggest difference is the HeyTutor team pre-screens, and hand picks candidates for jobs posted by HeyTutor Pro clients. To work with HeyTutor Pro students you must also have passed a background check.

You can submit a lesson directly through your dashboard under the "bill my students" section.
1) Visit your messages tab and click on the conversation with the student you would like to bill.
2) On the bottom right hand corner, click the button that says "Add to my student list." This will allow you to bill the student.
3) Go back to your dashboard, and fill out the information under "Bill my students." Select the corresponding student, enter time in and time out, and submit the lesson.
You're good to go! Your payment will be delivered within 3-4 business days if working directly with a student, or 7-8 business days if working with a tutoring business.
HeyTutor pays tutors 3-4 business days after lessons are submitted, on a rolling basis. If you log in a lesson on a Monday, your payment will be delivered by Thursday or Friday at the latest.
NOTE: If working with tutoring businesses, payments take 7-8 businesses to be delivered due to delayed processing times.
All HeyTutor tutors are paid via direct deposit, straight to your bank account.
A profile is 100% free to create, and no fees are taken out of your lesson earnings.
To refund a student, you must void the lesson you submitted on their behalf. You have up to 5 days from time of submission, or until the date in which you are paid to void a lesson.
How to void a lesson:
Go to your Lessons and earnings page.
Select the lesson you want to void.
Click the "Void lesson" link near the bottom of the page.
If your student cancels a lesson, without giving you the required notice. You can submit the lesson and receive the full payment amount.
You can change your cancellation notice period at any time via your HeyTutor profile.
